We are back with a new meta deck in Clash Royale, this one being a log/zap bait deck combined with the ever popular hog rider. This is a super quick and fast cycle deck, with the hog rider, goblin gang, and goblin barrel inside of it. Here is some gameplay and strategy around the best deck in Clash Royale right now, a hog log bait deck!

Hog Log Bait Deck Overview

This hog log bait deck is centered around trying to bait out your opponent’s log or zap and then punish them with the other cards that would usually be taken out by those two spells. The four zap/log bait cards are goblin gang, skeleton army, princess, and goblin barrel; two defensive cards, one support card, and one offensive card. The whole point of this deck is to bait one the log and then punish your opponent with these other 3 cards. The goblin barrel is the best used for punish, being a pure offensive card with no great counter outside the log and arrows.

Of course, to help you with some damage, you have the hog rider which will probably be your main damage dealer throughout the battle. You want to get your hog down as fast as possible, aiming for two hits on the tower for each play. The cycling in this hog log bait deck is critical, because you want to cycle your hog past defenses so it can get more hits on the tower.

Lastly, we have two spells and a defense. A great spell to have in any deck, the zap will take care of any swarm units that might be heading towards your tower. Also really great for letting your hog get one more hit on the tower. Second, you have the rocket which is going to do insane damage to the opponent’s tower when hit. Try to get as many rockets you can launched across the river. Lastly, since this deck is awfully scary on defenses, we have the inferno tower, just to help take down those big tanky units.

Quick Hog/Goblin Barrel Pushes

The absolute key to this deck is CHIP damage. You aren’t going to have one overwhelming push to take a tower unless your opponent epically fails against swarm units. First off, you want to throw hogs across the bridge as much as you can. One or two hits can go a long ways towards taking out a tower.

Along with the hog, you should use your other offensive card, the goblin barrel as much as possible. Even if your opponent zaps the GB, it will still be able to do a few hundred hitpoints in damage, taking the tower even lower in health.

Also, don’t be afraid to play the goblin barrel or the hog rider by itself. Remember, we are just trying to get chip damage with this deck; we don’t want to have big overwhelming pushes!

Rocket Chip Damage

The two main ways you can get damage on the tower are the hog and the goblin barrel, but you can add to that damage by cycling the rocket to hit the tower as many times as you can. Ideally, if you could get at least 2 rockets onto the tower a game, that would be golden. However, you don’t just want hit the tower with the rocket, try to take out a troop along with it. Great troops to hit include the witch, musketeer, wizard, executioner, etc.

Two rockets alone on the tower will do 994 damage (at tournament level), taking off 2/5s of the whole tower’s health! Send those rockets flying!

Pushing After a Log/Zap

As I have mentioned a few times already, it is critical to punish your opponent after they play their log and/or zap spells. Since you have so many troops that have a primary counter of the log, you can dominate once that log gets played. For example, let’s say that your opponent played a card and you used the goblin gang as defenses. The log is their only defenses against swarm units and they use it to take out your goblin gang.

Now that you know the log is out of the way, you can punish your opponent with any of your three remaining log bait cards, to do unheard of damage. Just make sure your opponent doesn’t have another easy counter to those troops!

Counter the Most Popular Decks

In order to win with any deck, you still need to know how to counter the most popular decks and combos with Clash Royale at the moment. Here are 4 of the most popular combos right now and how you can beat them with this deck.

Hog-Goblin Gang Cycle: The goblin gang has been on the rise ever since it came out and when paired with the hog it is a formidable combo. This is a tough play without the log, but you are going to have to zap the gang and then play skeleton army over the entire push.

Golem Beatdown: INFERNO OP! This one isn’t too hard to beat since you do have the inferno tower up your sleeve, but the baby dragon is kind of tough to take out. Set up with the inferno and then play the princess to splash down everything.

Bowler-Graveyard: Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. With two swarm cards, you can surround the bowler with the skeleton army, while you place the goblin gang on the graveyard. If your opponent is rocking this combo, its almost an automatic win for you!

LavaLoonion: Just like with the golem beatdown deck, you are saved here because of the inferno. You should play down inferno first to kite both the cards, followed up by goblin gang and princess just to get some air damage in there.
