Clash Royale Epic Card Rankings

Epic cards are some of the most coveted cards in Clash Royale and today we are going to rank the best epic cards in Clash Royale 1-21! I’ve done this post before where there were only 17 epic cards which you can view here. Lets start the new 2017 rankings!

Clash Royale Ranking the Epic Cards

How the Epic Cards are Ranked

When ranking these cards we put a lot of thought and effort into what makes the best epic card the best. We are considering a variety of different ways to rank which are order in importance as follows:

  1. Versatility
  2. Cost/Damage Ratio (is the card worth it?)
  3. Strength on defense and offense

So now that you know what we are judging on, lets go ahead and get into the rankings, starting with number 21!

Epic Card Rankings

#21- Clone

Clash Royale Clone Spell

Let’s all agree right now, the clone is basically the worst card in Clash Royale. When it first was released, it was worried that it was going to be OP, but due to splash units, the clone is so weak because the cloned cards can be taken out so easily. It got a bit better with the recent buff, but it still remains at the bottom of the epic cards.

#20- X-Bow

Clash Royale XBow

Some x-bow users have a TON of skill, but for the most part, the x-bow is difficult to use and almost impossible to win with against a halfway decent player. The x-bow just has too long of a deploy time which makes it easy for your opponent to counter. However, you can still win with it, which is why it is ranked above the clone spell.

#19- Mirror

Clash Royale Mirror

The mirror only really has one good use, for sending multiple goblin barrels. For the most part, the mirror just doesn’t provide enough value or ease of use to be a great card within Clash Royale. While it is one of the staples of the Clash Royale cards, it needs a little bit more in order to really make it a quality card.

#18- Giant Skeleton

Giant Skeleton Clash Royale

Once one of the great defensive units in Clash Royale, the giant skeleton has really dropped off after its bomb’s deploy time was increased. Now, the giant skeleton is mostly a poor tank, being distracted and taken down more easily for than a P.E.K.K.A. Something has to be done with the giant skeleton soon!

#17- Guards

Guards Clash Royale

It’s not that guards are that poor of a card, but they just get overshadowed often by more popular and better counters. The best thing about the guards is their shield which prevents them being killed, making them pretty handy as a counter to the miner, elite barbarians or hog rider. However, this prevents them being part of zap/log bait decks.

#16- Rage

Clash Royale Rage Spell

Ever since the rage’s cost was lowered to 2 elixir, it has seen a huge increase in play time. While the rage still isn’t a great card, since it can be used for nothing sometimes, it is definitely viable to use in some giant and hog decks. For the most part though, the rage is a risky 2 elixir card that may provide you with almost no value.

#15- Lightning

Lightning Clash Royale

The lightning is the best friend of golem and lava hound decks! Honestly, the lightning can provide some of the best elixir trades in the game, giving a 3 elixir bonus plus damage on your opponent’s tower. However, its high cost is really a killer, since often you won’t have 6 elixir to play after placing a card. Also, it is usually overshadowed by the rocket, since it doesn’t do as much damage.

#14- Dark Prince

Dark Prince Clash Royale

The dark prince is overall a pretty decent card, but it just doesn’t have any real defensive value which often hurts it when in competition with other cards for deck space. Still, when you have a fast moving, quick cycle deck, the dark prince isn’t a bad card to improve since he can clear the way of splash units.

#13- P.E.K.KA.

PEKKA Clash Royale

Besides the golem, the P.E.K.K.A. has been the go to “BIG” tank in Clash Royale. For 7 elixir you get a ton of HP, but the issue with the P.E.K.K.A. is its tendency to be distracted easily by cheap units. However, when you get a few units in behind her, the P.E.K.K.A. can deal massive damage on an opposing arena tower.

#12- Freeze

Freeze Clash Royale

There are two main issues with the freeze, but other than these it is a very strong card. First off, the freeze has to be paired with another card and isn’t a direct damage dealer. Second, the freeze helps your opponent build up a massive counter push since they have a few more seconds to gather elixir while you just wasted 4. Besides that though, the freeze can be devastating if played at the correct time.

#11- Prince

Prince Clash Royale

I always like to think of the prince as a faster, cheaper, weaker P.E.K.K.A. He gets distracted way too easily to be send in alone, but with some support cards, the prince can wreck havoc upon an opposing player. Once you get his charge in, the prince can decimate any defending troops and the tower!

#10- Witch

Witch Clash Royale

Like a lot of these epic cards, the witch has been on the rise over the last couple months, due to her ability to spawn skeletons plus her splash damage to both air and ground units. The witch really is one of the best support cards to pop behind a slow moving tank; her synergy with giant and golem is off the charts!

#9- Goblin Barrel

Goblin Barrel Clash Royale

Despite the popularity of the log, the goblin barrel is still used across all arenas and for good reason! Those three goblins can do so much damage if not countered, leaving it as one of the most dangerous cards in the game. Popular lately has been tank+goblin barrel, taking out the tower if you don’t get rid of those goblins.

#8- Poison

Poison Clash Royale

With all of the ups and the downs of the poison, it finally has returned to the top of the meta game! Even though it no longer slows troops, its damage over time is devastating to troops that remain in the circle. It also one shots skeletons and two shots minions of equal level, which makes it popular combined with graveyard and miner.

#7- Bowler

Bowler Clash Royale

The bowler is one of the most popular non-defensive-targeting tank troops, which makes him extremely popular as both support and a tank himself. Bowler and graveyard is a killer combo that can decimate most cards played against it. The pushback from the bowler’s rock makes it so powerful for offense, but also defense.

#6- Balloon

Balloon Clash Royale

A lot of players within Clash Royale complain about the balloon, but honestly, its not as great as everyone claims. Sure, it can do a ton of damage if it locks on the tower, but it is very weak and can be countered with basically any air targeting troop. Still, the balloon is completely devastating as an offensive unit, especially behind the lava hound.

#5- Baby Dragon

Baby Dragon Clash Royale

Similarly to the bowler, the baby dragon has gained big popularity due to its ability to tank and support, all while doing splash damage. The baby dragon is great in any deck, especially golem decks. The splash aspect of the baby dragon is so powerful, allowing it to clear minions and goblins with ease, making way for your tank.

#4- Skeleton Army

Skeleton Army Clash Royale

The best defensive card in Clash Royale. Period. The skeleton army does insane damage for countering troops and is so big that you can surround splash dealing cards and still defend! The only weakness to the skeleton army is the zap and log, but for the most part, it is a counter card that you should bring in most decks.

#3- Tornado

Tornado Clash Royale

What a rise in power from the tornado. As recent as a few months ago, no one at all used the tornado. Then came the introduction of the executioner and with it, the rise of the tornado. The tornado is just so great at grouping units as well as doing as much damage as a zap spell. Definitely one of the best crowd control cards in Clash Royale.

#2- Executioner

Executioner Clash Royale

The second part of the combo mentioned above, the executioner can do more than just clear troops from the tornado. He is the ideal support unit, dealing splash damage to both air and ground units. The best part about the executioner is his health. He isn’t as weak as witch, e-wiz, or wizard which often makes him a popular card.

#1- Golem

Golem Clash Royale

And finally, we get to our number 1 epic card, the golem! The golem is the BEST tank in Clash Royale, hands down. He is just so great at having high HPs! Something a lot of people don’t realize is that the golem actually does a ton of damage on the tower. Also, he can destroy weak troops when he explodes… I mean come on!

So that is going to wrap it up for our epic card rankings for June of 2017! Stay tuned soon to see our legendary card rankings soon. Thanks for reading and comment below what you think of the rankings!

  2. Giant Skeleton, although too easy to stop, is not the worst tank for me. He offers a lot of defensive value in 2v2, and he can kill troops that deal area damage. He can also drop his bomb to the inferno tower, allowing the hog rider to deal a lot more hits, but I think his bomb should explode 1 second faster

  3. Cannon Cart is still terrible, I think the reason behind is because the Guards took away its defensive value. Guards might be weak, but they counter a lot of dangerous troops like PEKKA a lot better than Cannon Cart. After all, guards aren’t underpowered.

  4. Right now the best epics are no doubt Executioner, definitely Baby Dragon, for sure the PEKKA and not to forget the Golem. The 2 biggest and strongest brutes are extremely dangerous offensive and defensive cards, Baby Dragon has been an OP support for long, better than Wizard thanks to his much higher HP and cheaper cost, a lot more versatile, and please nerf the Executioner …….. he’s too deadly, too much HP, good damage, and new bugs (If he missed, he can still hit troops which are 1 tile in front of his axe)

  5. The craziest part about the Goblin Barrel:

    2v2

You and your partner used Goblin Barrel + Mirror + Rage + clone to the king, and watches the king gets destroyed as they have nothing to defend

  7. Lightning deserves to b higher, as it can easily kill Supports (Night witch, E-Wiz, Musketeer, and they’re all popular cards)

  8. Wow, I didn’t realised that Dark Prince really can work very well in quick cycle decks until you say it, he’s really better than I thought! Also, I actually think he Barely have some defensive potential, especially against Elite Barbarians, Witch, Goblin Gang etc. (Especially the first 2 since it gives a positive elixir trade if used correctly)

  9. I think Giant Larry should be higher than Guards, Giant Skeleton is definitely one of the best card in 2v2, especially if there’s tons of glass cannon hiding behind a tank, his bomb can kill them all, he’s much better than skeleton army in 2v2

  11. Yeah, I think the PEKKA can be a bit higher, as it improved a lot since the deploy time decrease and executioner’s arrival, the same goes with the prince, he also improved a lot!
