Clash Royale Legendary Card Rankings (May 2018)

It is time for a new legendary card rankings for all the legendary cards in Clash Royale! We will be having a power ranking, 15-1, of the legendary cards in Clash Royale as of May 2018. As many of you know, I have done this ranking before, back in February, with the same 15 cards. The top 5 cards then, in order, were log, electro-wizard, inferno dragon, mega knight, and lumberjack. Let’s see how much those rankings were shaken up over the past couple balance changes and updates!

You can view the old ranking here: https://clashfordummies.com/2017/07/03/clash-royale-legendary-card-rankings/

Clash Royale Ranking the Legendary Cards

How the Legendary Cards are Ranked

When ranking these cards we put a lot of thought and effort into what makes the best legendary card the best. We are considering a variety of different ways to rank which are order in importance as follows:

  1. Versatility
  2. Cost/Damage Ratio (is the card worth it?)
  3. Strength on defense and offense

So now that you know what we are judging on, lets go ahead and get into the rankings, starting with number 15!

Note: Text color indicates which way the card is trending in regard to the February rankings.

Legendary Card Rankings

#15- Sparky

Clash Royale Sparky

It seems almost like a sick joke that sparky keeps appearing at the basement of these legendary card rankings. Despite a large buff, sparky just can’t seem to make any headway into the meta, being largely considered one of the worst, if not the worst, cards in Clash Royale. Some sort of rework has to take place to put sparky at the top.

#14- Graveyard

Clash Royale Graveyard Legendary Card

Despite once being one of the best legendary cards in Clash Royale, the graveyard has fallen big time, mostly due to the nerf a few months ago that decreased its radius. With the card it synergized most with, the bowler, now sitting at the bottom of the epic cards, it is going to be an upward climb for the graveyard to return to its place of grandeur.

#13- Ice Wizard

Clash Royale Legendary Card Ice Wizard

The ice wizard has been slowly falling over the past few rankings, being overcome by cheaper and better alternatives. In my opinion, I think that the ice wizard needs some sort of damage buff, as the slowing aspect isn’t enough to keep the ice wizard at the top of the meta. Still, the ice wizard does fit into any deck archetype, which still makes him a viable card for most decks.

#12- Lava Hound

Clash Royale Legendary Card Lava Hound

Could we see a return to the LavaLoonion meta sometime soon? The balloon is currently at an all time high in usage, so the lava hound would have to step up a bit in order to join it. The lava hound is certainly tanky enough, but the damage that the LH gives out is a huge problem. A buff to the overall damage of the lava hound would put it in a good place.

#11- Lumberjack

Clash Royale Legendary Card Lumberjack

In the legendary card rankings, the lumberjack is going to be the biggest dropping falling 6 spots from number 5 all the way down to number 11. With the popularity of the solo rage spell growing, many players don’t need the lumberjack. Without the rage, the lumberjack honestly isn’t that great of a card, easily substituted by the mini-PEKKA or knight.

#10- Royal Ghost

Royal Ghost Clash Royale

While the domination the royal ghost had when first released isn’t still there, he is starting to show a little bit more promise as a mini tank card and defensive unit. The invisibility makes ranged units useless as the royal ghost will always get the first hit. I want to see the royal ghost get a slight buff so that he can return to where he was at.

#9- Princess

Clash Royale Legendary Card Princess

The ultimate ranged unit, the princess is still killing it even as more long distance troops, see magic archer, are added into Clash Royale. As more swarm units are also added into the game, the princess becomes more and more valuable, since she can kill them without being killed or even damaged herself. As log bait continues to grow, so will princess use.

#8- Magic Archer

Magic Archer Clash Royale

The newest legendary card added into Clash Royale, the magic archer sits right on that top half cut off. Definitely the legendary that requires the most skill to play, the magic archer can add in a whole new level of deployment into the game. What’s great about the magic archer is that he fits well into literally every deck, mostly as a support unit that hopes to lock on the tower.

#7- Mega Knight

Mega Knight Clash Royale

With the popularity of the PEKKA and giant at a high, the mega knight is bound to suffer. It doesn’t help that its spawn damage was obliterated, as well as the spawn radius. Still though, the mega knight comes in at #7 in our rankings for good reason; he can do the damage when it matters as well as offer a solid tank unit for support units.

#6- Bandit

Bandit Clash Royale

As Clash Royale starts to shift towards a cheaper, more chip damage driven meta, the bandit is going to begin to be an obvious choice. For three elixir, you can have some huge damage on the tower if uncountered. At the very least, the bandit will force your opponent to hit a quick counter, often resulting in positive elixir trade for you.

#5- Night Witch

Night Witch Clash Royale

Just like the royal ghost, the night witch was once one of the most overpowered cards in Clash Royale. Then she was severely nerfed, but now, with the popularity of golem decks, the night witch is back right at the top, cracking the top 5 for the first time since the nerf. You simply can’t beat her overload of bats, as well as her sharp damage from her staff.

#4- Electro-Wizard

Clash Royale Electro Wizard Legendary Card

For the first time in many legendary card rankings, the electro-wizard is not going to be ranked in the top 3. For some reason, the e-wiz has died back, as more popular support units like the musketeer take it down. Still, the electro-wizard is ranked fourth for the legendary cards which means that it is still fitting in well with a ton of different decks.

#3- Miner

Clash Royale Legendary Card Miner

Despite only rising up 3 spots, the miner is going to be the highest climber in these rankings, coming up from #6 to #3. Without a doubt, the miner is one of the most versatile cards in Clash Royale, giving huge advantages when taking out the elixir collector and other troops. The miner is one of the best secondary tanks in Clash Royale, and can be played anywhere on the map!

#2- Inferno Dragon

Clash Royale Inferno Dragon Legendary Card

At one point, you could rely on the inferno dragon always being at the bottom of these legendary card rankings with sparky. However, thanks to a series of small buffs, the inferno dragon has been able to rise all the way up to #2 in the rankings. The inferno dragon, only costing 4 elixir is one of the best way to shut down tanks in Clash Royale!

#1- Log

Log Clash Royale

And, probably with little surprise, the log is going to be ranked as the top legendary card in Clash Royale. Out of all the cards in Clash Royale, the log is the only one to have its own deck archetype designed around baiting it out. For two elixir, the log offers way too much value and can be a direct counter for way too many cards in Clash Royale.

So that is going to wrap it up for our legendary card rankings for May of 2018! Stay tuned soon to see how all of our rankings change in a couple months. Thanks for reading and comment below what you think of the rankings!
