Clash Royale Legendary Card Rankings (August 2019)

It is time for a new legendary card rankings for all the legendary cards in Clash Royale! We will be having a power ranking, 17 to 1, of all the legendary cards in Clash Royale as of August 2019. As many of you know, I have done this ranking before, back in May, with 16 legendary cards. The top 5 cards then, in order, were miner, log, electro-wizard, bandit, and inferno dragon. Let’s see how much those rankings were shaken up over the past couple balance changes and updates!

Clash Royale Ranking the Legendary Cards

How the Legendary Cards are Ranked

When ranking these cards we put a lot of thought and effort into what makes the best legendary card the best. We are considering a variety of different ways to rank which are order in importance as follows:

  1. Versatility
  2. Cost/Damage Ratio (is the card worth it?)
  3. Strength on defense and offense

So now that you know what we are judging on, lets go ahead and get into the rankings, starting with number 17!

Note: Text color indicates which way the card is trending in regard to the May rankings.

Legendary Card Rankings

#17- FishermanFisherman Clash Royale

There’s no doubt that fisherman is the worst legendary card released in a long, long time. In the balance changes that are supposed to be announced August 31st, he should be getting some sort of buff. He really needs to be able to pull air troops, since taking out minions would be his speciality, but CR stated that this wouldn’t be possible.

#16- Night Witch

Night Witch Clash Royale

If you think about it, the night witch really is quite bad, being extremely easy to take out. The only deck that it really excels in is a golem-night witch deck, which has been on a major decline over the past year or so. What the night witch needs is a faster bat spawn rate, which should make it so she’s more a spawner card that moves.

#15- Graveyard

Clash Royale Graveyard Legendary Card

Right now, there aren’t many win condition cards that are worse than the graveyard. The graveyard hasn’t been a great card in a really long time and I think that Clash Royale needs to take a long look at what they want to do with the card. It definitely needs a buff, as I don’t mind it being a top tier win condition whatsoever.

#14- Sparky

Clash Royale Sparky

There are now three legendary cards ranked behind sparky. Though it is very slow, sparky is moving its way into more and more play time. Don’t get me wrong, sparky is still one of the worst legendary cards, but it is no longer a joke of a card. There are now decks out there that work very well with sparky, and hopefully there will be more soon.

#13- Royal Ghost

Royal Ghost Clash Royale

I’ve never been too much of a fan of the royal ghost and he has really taken a hit. Down to #13, he used to be a consistent top 5 legendary card. I just think there are better mini-tanks out there at the moment, mostly the bandit and the miner. The invisibility the royal ghost gives is one of the most valuable abilities in Clash Royale and the RG must capitalize on it.

#12- Ram Rider

I’ve never played with the ram rider that much, since I feel like it is a pretty weak card for 5 elixir. However, looking at the statistics of the card, it looks like other players must know something I don’t about how to play it. Personally, I’m much more of a fan of the battle ram, which offers more value (to me) for one less elixir.

#11- Ice Wizard

Clash Royale Legendary Card Ice Wizard

The ice wizard seems to be hovering around the #10 spot, which seems to fit him pretty well. I don’t know exactly what the IW needs to do in order to become a top tier support card, but right now, he’s just average. I think a higher slowing percentage would really allow him to hone into that “ice” part of his name.

#10- Inferno Dragon

Clash Royale Inferno Dragon Legendary Card

Our biggest faller in these legendary card rankings is going to the inferno dragon, which fell 5 spots to the #10 spot. There are still definitely decks with the inferno dragon featured prominently, but it’s not as strong as it used to be back in May. The inferno tower has taken a lot of playing share, as the inferno dragon is countered too easily.

#9- Magic Archer

Magic Archer Clash Royale

And our biggest jump of the legendary rankings, probably to no one’s surprise is the magic archer, who is up 7 spots to vault into the top 10. The buff in the August balance changes seems to have really changed the gameplay behind the magic archer, which used to be the worst legendary card BY FAR in previous rankings.

#8- Lumberjack

Clash Royale Legendary Card Lumberjack

The quick lumberjack is sitting just inside the top half of legendary cards, which is definitely deserved. From being towards the back a bit over a year ago, the lumberjack has slowly worked his way back up. I’m a big fan of the quickness of both the attack and speed of the lumberjack, which can scare an opponent into a quick counter.

#7- Lava Hound

Clash Royale Legendary Card Lava Hound

While balloon is still at the top of epic cards, the lava hound sort of follows it up, since the balloon is the biggest synergy with the hound. Honestly, I would still like to see a slight buff to the lava hound itself, but it is in a good spot in the meta, so it probably shouldn’t receive any sort of buff. Being a healthy and decent card is exactly what we want to see.

#6- Princess

Clash Royale Legendary Card Princess

As a lot of you know, princess is my favorite legendary card, so I’m super happy to see her remain at her #6 ranking. The princess is a super hot card right now, offering range that no other card in Clash Royale can match. The splash damage she gives off is super valuable too, especially from far away from the action where she can’t be hit.

#5- Bandit

Bandit Clash Royale

Nothing will ever match the invincibility of the bandit when she charges, since that allows the bandit to do damage, even if she has a sliver of health left. I’ve been seeing the bandit played more and more on defense too, which is a move I really like. The best cards in the game are those who can play offense and the defense and the bandit is filling that role.

#4- Mega Knight

Mega Knight Clash Royale

Even with the popularity of the PEKKA so high, the mega knight is riding some success too, moving up inside of our top 5. There’s no doubt the mega knight is one of the top tank cards in Clash Royale right now, usually used as an alternative to the PEKKA as a more defense driven, splash damage option that can still lead a strong push.

#3- Miner

Clash Royale Legendary Card Miner

Due to the unique ability of the miner to tunnel onto the opponent’s side, its unlikely he will ever fall out of the top 6-7 legendary cards. #3 is a great spot to be with the miner, as the secondary tank value he brings to the table is unparalleled. This is a card that can get you huge positive elixir trades and his damage can slowly wear down a tower.

#2- Electro-Wizard

Clash Royale Electro Wizard Legendary Card

One of the cards that has seen an astronomical rise in usage since May is the electro-wizard. There’s no clear reason for it, but the e-wiz has become the preferred support card for a lot of different decks. I love playing with the e-wiz, so I’m happy that it’s back up into a top 3 power position, but let’s hope it doesn’t become OP all of a sudden.

#1- Log

Log Legendary Card Clash Royale

Mostly due to the fall of the barbarian barrel, the log is back up to the number 1 spot for legendary cards. With the barbarian barrel dropping off, players have needed to go back to the log as a way to counter goblin gang and goblin barrels completely. Unless the BB comes back up, expect the log to maintain its dominance.

So that is going to wrap it up for our legendary card rankings for August of 2019! Stay tuned soon to see how all of our rankings change in a couple months. Thanks for reading and comment below what you think of the rankings!

  2. Ever since the valance changes, the legendary cards arguably has the most changed on popularity

Graveyard, Royal Ghost and especially Fisherman all shot up very quickly, with Fisherman now being arguably the best card in the game, Royal Ghost now finally able to compete with Dark Prince, Graveyard synergises extremely well with Giant Skeleton which is on the rise

Also, For some reason, i noticed that Bandit and Lumberjack’s popularity has somewhat diminished, I’m not sure why though, maybe Royal Ghost’s buff has hurt them quite a lot?

  3. The last time Log and E-Wiz are ranked #1/#2 respectively are during February 2018, 1 1/2 years ago! Since then E-Wiz has slowly became a non viable card due to the fact that there’s so much better options, slowly removing his uniqueness, Log has slowly died off too due to the dominance of Barb Barrel

Until a few months ago, the meta once again favored the E-Wiz due to nerfs to his alternatives, making him shine once again, the Barb Barrel was also significantly nerfed, bringing back Log’s chance to shine!

Now, they’re both back at top 2, just like 1 1/2 years ago

  4. I agree with your list for the most part. But I just don’t think Night witch needs a buff as it woulda make golem beatdown even better.
