Clash Royale is introducing a new round of balance changes in the April 2018 update, which is slated to arrive on April 24th, 2018. These balance changes are great, nerfing the tornado and dark prince, while buffing the barbarian barrel and lightning. Here’s the full balancing update for Clash Royale.
As always, nerfs will be listed in red, while buffs are in blue.
- Dark Prince: Shield Hitpoints -25%
- Spear Goblins (affects Spear Goblins, Goblin Gang, Goblin Hut): Hit Speed 1.1sec → 1.2sec
- Barbarian Barrel: Range 6.5 → 7
- Knight: Hitpoints +3%
- Dart Goblin: Damage +3%
- Ice Spirit: Area Damage -4%; Freeze Duration 1.5sec → 1sec
- Skeleton Barrel: Skeleton count 6 → 7
- Lightning: Radius 3 → 3.5
- Tornado: Duration 2.5sec → 2 sec; Damage per second +21% (this affects Total Damage -3%)
- Magic Archer: hits moving targets better
- Spells: can now be played on the river
Balance Changes Nerfs
The dark prince’s reign of terror should finally be over, with him receiving a 25% nerf to his shield. The other most hated card right now, the tornado, is also receiving a great nerf, in the form of a duration decrease and overall damage decrease. This should make it much easier to break free from the tornado. Spear goblins, as requested by many players, got a hit speed increase which will hurt the goblin gang and goblin hut as well. Finally, the ice spirit was brutally murdered, getting a freeze duration decrease and a damage decrease!
Balance Changes Buffs
Of course, the barbarian barrel got a buff, with a less than ideal introduction into Clash Royale. Another card that has been underwhelming lately, the skeleton barrel will get another skeleton added back. Both the knight and dart goblin, two cards that could be OP, received 3% increases, with HP for the knight and damage for the dart goblin. The last real buff was to the lightning, putting its radius back to 3.5 tiles and making it a great card as an alternative to the rocket. The magic archer and spells got a bit of a fix, with the magic archer aiming better and spelling being able to be deployed on the river.
These balance changes are absolutely amazing, but I wish we saw a buff to the bomb tower as well as others. I would consider the tornado change as a rework instead of a nerf, sure the overall damage goes down but it can kill skeletons and bats 1 tick less!

That does help but since its an overall damage decrease I think it is fully a nerf!

Remember Poison though? It’s SO USELESS when they first removed the slow down effect until they increase the damage by 24% while decreasing the duration by 2 seconds, it caused the poison’s overall damage decrease by 1%, but it made it good again as it kills Skeletons better

Knight’s buff, I can describe as a bit unnecessary, as he’s good enough now, not too OP, but balanced

I’m sad to see the ice spirit get destroyed like that 😦 should still be good for cycling though!

Sometimes true, like I hate Skeleton Barrel after the nerf because I do not see it at all, but if you’re talking those like top ladder RG, EBarbs and Furnace …….. yeah that’s not cool when seeing it

I played furnace twice in a row yesterday for the first time in months and I thought I was going to have a seizure!

It’s just overall a 67 HP nerf for Dark Prince’s Shield, so I don’t think that would change too much interactions apart from the Log being able to destroy it 1 shot

I think that the dark prince will still be very strong, but should see a SLIGHT decrease in use
