The inferno tower is one of the best defenses in Clash of Clans, and, to make it even better, has two different modes: single-target mode and multi-target mode. Let’s talk about which mode is better to set the inferno tower to and some pros and cons to both single and multi target settings.
Single-Target Mode
Single target mode is the mode that you are going to want to set to take out large tanks or an army with not a lot of troops in it. The single target inferno tower mode is going to work best against the following troops:
- Golems
- Heroes
- Lava Hounds
- Dragons
- PEKKAs
If you can catch the trends, all of those units take up at least 20 army camp space and at least 3000 HP. That being said, a single target inferno tower can take out all of these units in less than 5 seconds. The big catch is that it can only take out one unit at a time.
This means that the single target mode, despite dealing massive damage, can be quickly overwhelmed by swarm troops like hog riders, valkyries, and miners. Here’s a great picture, from Clash of Clans wiki, that shows all the stats from the single target inferno tower!
Looking at the chart, we can see that after 5.25 seconds, a maxed-out single target inferno tower will end up dealing 1,750 damage PER SECOND. Of course, it will have the heat up to do this, basically having to take out a maxed out lava hound in order to get this hot. Still the damage is there. Let’s look over some pros and cons for the single target inferno tower.
Single Target Mode Pros
- Does insane single target damage, taking out most tanks in a few seconds
- Defends well against heroes coming in for the two star
- Can expose support troops behind tanks
Single Target Mode Cons
- Quickly overwhelmed by swarm troops
- Can only kill one troop or hero at a time
- Switching between troops after death can be time-consuming
Ultimately I would suggest using the single-target inferno tower if you are trophy hunting. Many people will use lava hounds or golems up in Champion and above, so being able to shut those down will be critical for winning those key defensive battles. Let’s take a look at multi-target inferno towers now!
Multi-Target Mode
Multi target mode is the mode that you are going to want to set to swarms of troops or any troops that aren’t that tanky. The multi target inferno tower mode is going to work best against the following troops:
- Hog Riders
- Valkyries
- Miners
- Bowlers
- Giants
All of these troops listed are going to be somewhat tanky, as well as popular mass attack strategies. If you have the multi-target inferno tower going, you’ll be able to target 5 of these troops at a time. It won’t be able to do as much damage as the single target IT though, dealing stagnant damage.
So despite being able to target 5 troops at once, the multi-target inferno tower won’t be able to shut down golems or other tanky units nearly as fast as the single target inferno. Here’s a great picture, from Clash of Clans wiki, that shows all the stats from the multi target inferno tower!
So the multi damage inferno tower, at level 5, will be dealing 63 damage per second. This is the same as the initial damage from the single target inferno, but it doesn’t increase. So it would take 110 seconds to take down a level 7 golem, but shred 5 level 7 hogs in 12 seconds.Let’s look over some pros and cons for the single target inferno tower.
Multi Target Mode Pros
- Can destroy many units all at the same time
- Won’t be overwhelmed by many small HP units
- Able to destroy support units as well as the tank in front
Multi Target Mode Cons
- Practically useless (deals half as much damage as a cannon) against tanks
- Can easily get distracted by large tanks and have support units take it out
I would suggest putting the inferno tower at multi-target mode when you are in war or if you are farming. War could go either way, depending on what you keep being attacked with, but for farming definitely set on multi. Most of the attacks will be barch or giants, which multi-target inferno towers can shut down with ease.
And that’s all I’ve got for you today on inferno towers and the two different modes. I hope that you guys enjoyed this in-depth Clash of Clans article. Thanks for reading and comment below which mode you put your inferno tower on!
