Ever wonder why there is a loot penalty in Clash of Clans? Or why rushing your TH is bad? I’m here today to help explain to you exactly what the loot penalty is and how to make the best of it.

Introduction to the Loot Penalty

For this whole article, lets be using a Town Hall 8 as an example. Basically what the loot penalty is the percentage of loot that you get off a base in a raid. When raiding the same Town Hall as you get can get 100% of the loot available. Here’s the amount of loot you can get off other Town Hall levels. If the TH is

• 4 levels lower (TH4 for a TH8) can get 5% of the loot available
• 3 levels lower (TH5 for a TH8) can get 25% of the loot avaliable
• 2 levels lower (TH6 for a TH8) can get 50% of the loot available
• 1 level lower (TH7 for a TH8) can get 90% of the loot available
• Same level (TH8 for a TH8) can get 100% of the loot available
• 1 level higher (TH9 for a TH8) can get 110% of the loot available
• 2 levels higher (TH10 for a TH8) can get 150% of the loot available.

So basically the lower the Town Hall level you are, the more loot you can get. Lets get into some calculations to really see what a big difference this makes.

So if we look back into those ranges, we can start to understand why rushing your Town Hall is so bad. Say TH6 finds another Town Hall 6 for 200k of gold and elixir. A TH10 would only get 10k off the exact same raid!

Here’s a more realistic example of something that would actually happen. Say there is a TH8 who rushes to Town Hall 10. He goes out to find a raid, and he finds an amazing 400k raid off a Town Hall 8. 400k is AMAZING, but imagine if he was still a TH8. He would have gotten an unbelievable 800k off the exact same raid!

These two example show you that it is a lot better to keep your TH low and maxed that way you can get the most possible loot that you can

Taking Advantage of the Loot Penalty

There are two ways to really take advantage of the loot penalty. It’s meant to try and keep rushing your Town Hall down and that’s exactly what you should do.

1) DONT RUSH!

This is the number one way to get the most loot. You can get TONS of more loot by having a lower Town Hall and getting less of a loot penalty against you

2) Get to a high league and get a high bonus

Up in the high leagues, you can take out a lower TH for only 200k combined and still have a great raid based off of the loot bonus. The loot bonus in Champion is a crazy 180k of each resource!
