What base and what strategy should you use to attack in Clash of Clans? This is called base identification and it is KEY to becoming a war master! You need to know what strategy to use for a specific base, how many stars you are aiming for, and what strategies you are skilled at.

So lets use a Town Hall 8 for an example in this article. There are generally three main strategies you can use at Town Hall 8 for war: Hogs, GoWiPe, and Mass Drags. You’ve got to be very versatile in all of these strategies to be able to succeed with war. So lets take a look at a couple of bases and see which of the strategies we would use for each one.

The first thing you should notice in every base design in how spread out it is. If it is very tight together, you should use either hogs or drags. But if it is spread out GoWiPe would be the correct strategy to choose. So this one is very tight knit, so it is between hogs and drags for this base!

So now you need to notice what level the AD are and where the air sweeper is positioned. On this base, the air defense are only level 4, easily overwhelmed with level 3 drags. Also the air sweeper isn’t that effective, its way off to the side. So that means….

Ok, so remember when I said to look for a spread out base or not? This one is VERY spread out, you have quite a job trying to hog or drag this base design. Obviously that leaves only one choice….

Ok so this is the final base. So first off it isn’t very spread out, so that cancel out GoWiPe as an attack strategy. Next you need to check out the AD and the air sweeper. All 4 are centralized and hard to get to. Also the air defense are all level 6s. That leaves hogs. If you look closer at the base there are no areas for double giant bombs, so makes it perfect!
