It is time for a new legendary card rankings for all the legendary cards in Clash Royale! We will be having a power ranking, 16 to 1, of all the legendary cards in Clash Royale as of May 2019. As many of you know, I have done this ranking before, back in February, with 16 legendary cards. The top 5 cards then, in order, were bandit, miner, log, lava hound, and electro-wizard. Let’s see how much those rankings were shaken up over the past couple balance changes and updates!
You can view the old ranking here: https://clashfordummies.com/2019/02/22/clash-royale-legendary-card-rankings-february-2019/
How the Legendary Cards are Ranked
When ranking these cards we put a lot of thought and effort into what makes the best legendary card the best. We are considering a variety of different ways to rank which are order in importance as follows:
- Cost/Damage Ratio (is the card worth it?)
- Strength on defense and offense
So now that you know what we are judging on, lets go ahead and get into the rankings, starting with number 16!
Note: Text color indicates which way the card is trending in regard to the February rankings.
Legendary Card Rankings
#16- Magic Archer
Ever since that first attack nerf so long ago, the magic archer has been absolute garbage, being overshadowed by literally every card in Clash Royale. Though far from the worst card overall in CR, this is one of the worst support units in the game, hands down. Just bring back the old stats of the magic archer, PLEASE!
Graveyard has officially been on the decline for a few months now and really needs a rework in order to become relevant again. The 5 elixir commitment can be a lot for one push, especially when it fades so fast. It takes a lot to build up into a great graveyard push, which means a lot of players aren’t able to get the strong push they are looking for.
Do I hear a rise of sparky??? Sparky is undeniably getting more usage than it got 6 months ago, which is a great sign for the stereotypical worst card in Clash Royale. There’s no doubt sparky can actually do some work with the right play, which has led to its rise. I’m a big fan of sparky and really hope that it continues its rise to the top.
#13- Night Witch
The real issue with the night witch is that she can only be used in select decks. This makes her versatility one of the worst in Clash Royale. No one is using the night witch as a casual defensive card, especially if you’re not playing a mega knight or golem. There needs to be some way to get the night witch into mainstream decks like hog and giant decks.
#12- Royal Ghost
Another card that has fallen off big time is the royal ghost, who used to be ranked #1 a few rankings ago. Now, the royal ghost is sitting in purgatory, halfway between a win condition and a support card. I’m not sure exactly what buff the royal ghost needs to return to its former spot, but something has to give to stop the royal ghost’s decline.
#11- Lava Hound
The lava hound is going to be the biggest dropper in these legendary card rankings, falling 7 spots out of the top 5 to the #11 spot. I think that the lava hound is still a fair win condition, especially if you are playing it combined with the balloon. However, there are more effective ways to get damage on the tower, while the lava hound is still unreliable based on what your opponent’s deck is.
#10- Ice Wizard
For the first time in a while, we are going to have both of the original two legendary cards ranked in the top 10. I’m a huge fan of the ice wizard, so its satisfying to see him return. This card is super versatile and the slowing effect is great, no matter what deck you’re playing. I think either the damage or slowing should be buffed to define the ice wizard as a card.
#9- Mega Knight
While still a great win condition to use, other cards like the PEKKA and giant are now much better to use. I like the mega knight because it is unique with its jump splash damage, but the damage it deals just isn’t up to par with the PEKKA. I kind of want to see a buff to the landing damage to bring the mega knight back up.
#8- Ram Rider
Our newest legendary card is almost perfect in the meta, as a pretty good win condition but far from OP. The ram rider got toned down in the April balance changes, which took her away from being a top tier card, but still a great way to win battles. I’m happy with the ram rider and think she is pretty perfectly balanced.
I remember the days with the lumberjack, inferno dragon, and sparky used to constantly be considered the 3 worst legendary cards. It’s been shaken up a bit, and the lumberjack is now way better than its old rival, the mini-PEKKA. This guy can be used on defense transitioned to offense, which is perfect for any card looking for a spot in the meta.
The princess is going to be the biggest riser in these power rankings, going up 5 spots to the #6 spot, just missing out on the top 5. There’s no doubt that the princess is my favorite legendary card, so it excites me to see her on the rise. She is great for taking out swarm cards, and there is no matching the range that she has.
#5- Inferno Dragon
Since there are so many tank cards in the meta right now, it only makes sense that the inferno dragon is one of the top legendary cards. You could argue that the ID is better than the inferno tower, since it does give you a troop that you can push with after. As long as there are tank cards around, the inferno dragon will stay towards the top of these rankings.
The bandit is going to drop from the #1 spot in the last legendary card rankings, but by no means is it a terrible card now. The bandit is still an amazing secondary option. Since it only costs three elixir, it is often overcountered, which gives you a huge advantage. Sometimes it will go uncountered too, which means a thousand HP off the tower.
I’m happy to see the electro-wizard return to its mantle of one of the best support cards in Clash Royale. The reset is obviously invaluable, but the zap effect it gives off when it lands can also be used to great success. The versatility of the e-wiz is also unmatched, as it can fit into literally any deck archetype in Clash Royale.
I’ve mentioned this a lot as I’ve written the May card rankings, but it is amazing that with so many quality 2 elixir spells, that four of them can rank in the top 2 of their respective rankings. The log, like the other ones, brings something unique to the table, its pushback. None of the other cards pack as much of a punch as the log, which can directly counter princess or dart gob.
Our number one card in these legendary rankings is going to be miner, which might just be the most valuable card in Clash Royale in terms of elixir to value. The miner can completely take out an elixir collector, or it can tank for a bunch of half dead troops, which could result in the tower going down completely. All hail the miner at the top of the legendary cards!
So that is going to wrap it up for our legendary card rankings for May of 2019! Stay tuned soon to see how all of our rankings change in a couple months. Thanks for reading and comment below what you think of the rankings!
