Once you upgrade to Town Hall 8 in Clash of Clans, you need to know what troops to upgrade first in your laboratory. Today, I’m going to give you TH8s a laboratory research guide for what troops and spells you should be upgrading first in Clash of Clans!

Elixir Troop Upgrade Order

#1- Archers: Perfect for barch, perfect for giants farming, and perfect for hog clean up, the archers should definitely be the first troop upgraded. Archers are a great troop to get to level 5 as they are the perfect support troops.

#2- Barbarians: Level 5 barbarians mean that they no longer get one shot by those level 4 mortars. Barch is the farming strategy you should be using at TH8, so this can only improve your farming.

#3- Dragons: Despite hogs being the superior TH8 war strategy, dragons are still a pretty good army to use, especially when you are new to TH8 and don’t have the DE to upgrade hogs. Level 3 dragons can beat most TH8 war bases.

#4- Giants: If you don’t prefer barch, then giants should be your farming strategy. Having level 5 giants will just make it that much harder to kill them and give your support troops a chance to grab more loot.

#5- Balloons: The rise of DragLoon at Town Hall 8 means that you should really try to get your loons to 5. While balloons really start being formidable at level 6, level 5 balloons are nothing to shy away at.

#6- Wizard: Along with the archer, the wizard is one of the best support cards for giants and hogs at TH8. Level 5 wizards will let you clean up buildings much faster.

#7- Goblins: Goblin knife has become a popular farming strategy and upgrading your goblins will help you pull this off much better. Get those green guys to the loot!

#8- P.E.K.K.A.s: You unlock P.E.K.K.A.s at Town Hall 8, but you have the option to upgrade them to 3. P.E.K.K.A.s aren’t a great troop yet, so you are better off upgrading other things first.

#9- Wall Breakers: Wall breakers are practically unneeded at TH8. In war, you use either drags or hogs which both don’t need WBs. Also, barch doesn’t need to get through walls for farming resources.

#10- Healers: Lastly, we have healers because the only strategies that use the healer are for TH9 and above. You should eventually upgrade her though so you are ready once you go to Town Hall 9.

Dark Elixir Troop Upgrade Order

#1- Hogs: Having level 4 hogs at TH8 is one of the most important things you can do in Clash of Clans. Level 4 hog riders can destroy any TH8, so upgrading these is a priority, as long as you can come up with the DE for it.

#2- Minions: Minions are really good support and clean up units throughout all of gameplay. Having upgrading minions can really help you deal some damage where air defense may be lacking.

#3- Golems: A lot of Town Hall 8s prefer GoWiPe as an attack strategy, but hogs and drags can do it better. Still it is good to have your golems upgraded for later on gameplay, plus the occasion golem raid you might do.

#4- Valkyries: Valkyries don’t really become strong until they are level 5 which is far in your future. There is no need to upgrade your valks as you will rarely be using them in battle.

Spell Upgrader Order

#1- Heal Spells: Combined with hog riders, the heal spells can keep them up indefinitely! Having leveled up healing spells can help you succeed much better in war attacks with hogs.

#2- Rage Spells: Besides heal, rage spells are really the only other spell you will use often in Clash of Clans at TH8. Mass dragons work great with it and giant-goblin can do some serious damage under a rage spell.

#3- Lightning Spells: If you are a big air fan, then upgrading your lightning spells will let you take out air defenses much easier. Taking one air defense out makes it simple to three star the rest with DragLoon.

#4- Poison Spells: While poison spells do help you deal with enemy CC troops, most people will bring big units like a dragon or baby dragons in their CC. Upgrading it doesn’t really do much.

#5- Earthquake Spells: Lastly, we have earthquake spells which only really have synergy with GoWiPe. Since you shouldn’t use GoWiPe at Town Hall 8, there is no reason to use this!
